Who Are We?

We are a band of women who have been personally touched by rare diagnoses. We understand how hard navigating this time in your life can be and we want to lend a helping hand. Meet our founder, vice president, and board of directors.

Meet Our Team

  • Breann Gibson, Founder & President

In 2021 Breann’s daughter, Porter, was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder called OMAS (Opsoclonus-Myoclonus-Ataxia Syndrome ). Through this, she saw the need for a sounding board, advocates, and financial resources. When the community came together for her family and provided them with support - both interpersonal and financial, Breann knew it was time to act. She was ready to provide this same level of giving to others.

  • Alyssa Rhoades, Vice President

As Porter’s aunt, Alyssa struggled to stand on the sidelines. As a family member, sometimes helplessness is a real feeling. Alyssa’s gift is ‘Let’s do it!’ ‘Let’s find a way!’, so when she heard that Breann was looking to give back, she was all in. Alyssa primarily handles our marketing and coordinates fundraisers.

  • Nikki Uebel, Board of Directors

When Nikki was asked why she chose to become involved with Hear Us Roar, below is her response. The organization is proud to have her.

“I myself have a child with some very special circumstances and have been in rooms where I have had to advocate for her and felt like I was on an island. Having unique situations where there aren’t clear answers is a scary place to be and I hope I can bring a loving ear or suggestion for advocacy when appropriate. I also am so glad to bring support to women finding their voices and being a champion for one another.”

  • Megan Waters, Board of Directors

“People need people no matter how big or how small. May it be to support, encourage, celebrate or listen, a shoulder to cry on or someone to fight for you when the battle seems too strong.”

As a certified alcohol and drug counselor Megan brings with her experience and empathy. She will help our families find encouragement, resources, and healthy coping mechanisms.
